Jacob Roved X Ensemble

The X Ensemble (The ‘Cross’ Ensemble) is focused on the compositions of bandleader Jacob Roved. It crosses borders both geographically and musically, joining musicians from various regions in an exploration of uncharted musical land. The music takes its departure from the inventive 1960s New York scene, reviving the spirit of employing new concepts of composition and improvisation in such areas as parallel harmony and radical harmonic progressions.

Return To Forever Tribute

Chick Corea's albums 'Return To forever' and 'Light As A Feather' are milestones in the jazz history. Besides making the participating musicians world stars, they've had a huge influence on the perception of jazz during the1970s. Recognizing the importance and depth of this music, Return To Forever Tribute dedicates itself to working with the material of those albums specifically. The instrumentation is kept close to the original, adding merely our personal sounds to honour the spirit of this great music.

The line-up is: Thomas Clausen (Fender Rhodes), Vini Iuel Kjaersgaard (vocal), Jan Zum Vorde (flute), Florian Rynkowski (bass), Jacob Roved (drums), and Afonso Correa (percussion) as featured soloist.

Ruocco/Roved/Kaarsgaard Trio

This is a trio with the American-Dutch saxophone player John Ruocco, ‘double bass’ player Claus Kaarsgaard, and myself. We’ve played a few concerts in the Netherlands. The repertoire consists of a mix of my compositions and traditional bebop tunes reinterpreted to a contemporary sound. The lack of a chord instrument gives the music an open and unpredictable character. Listen to the example here. Read more about John Ruocco here.

Organic Beat

Organic Beat is a hard-swinging Finnish/Greek/Danish trio that pays tribute to the late 60's American Hammond organ jazz. The repertoire consists of music from all-time organ jazz greats such as Larry Young, Don Patterson and Grant Green, while also works by Hank Mobley and Art Blakey get a loving and skillful treatment. Infectious swing, positive energy and an engaging joy of playing this music are the trademarks of Organic Beat’s live performances, and a both touching and inspiring musical experience is guaranteed!

The line-up is: Sami Linna (FIN) on guitar, Jorgos Kontrafouris (GR) on Hammond organ, and Jacob Roved (DK) on drums. During Copenhagen Jazzfestival 2006 the band performed with Marc Bernstein (US/DK) and Joonatan Rautio (FIN) as featured soloists.

The band has issued the demo recording 'Our Groove Your Move'. Listen to the examples from that here.

Dr. Drawbars & the Scandinavian Connection

is a quartet with Hammond B3 organ, that plays groovy, sweaty, corny bop-boogaloo. The repetoire is a mix of different styles from straight boogaloo and klezzmer to Matt Bianco as well as original tunes. The code is GROOVE!! The band has grown from the scene around the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands, where most of the members have studied improvisation. All were active players in the city clubs, where hot and burning jam sessions often lasted until early in the morning!

The line-up is: Are Ovesen (N)(trumpet), Niels Vincentz (tenor sax), Jakob Frandsen (guitar), Mads Søndergaard (Hammond B3 organ), and Jacob Roved (drums)

In March 2006 the band did its first tour with three concerts in Copenhagen and one concert i Bergen, Norway. The band also performed for a full house at Hotel Skt. Petri during the Copenhagen Jazzfestival 2006. Please visit the band presentation on guitarist Jacob Frandsens webpage here.
